Many people consider Bansko to be well-known only for ski vacations but actually more than half of the 500,000 tourists per year visit it during the warm seasons. The reason why is that the town offers wonderful vacation opportunities both in summer and winter, as well as many attractions for children and adults.

Traditionally, Bansko is one of the leaders in international resort ratings thanks to the conditions and the diverse services it offers.

Those ratings are compiled by renowned branch organizations such as the World Ski Awards Academy, as well as special tourist websites like the British Post Office, or editions like Daily Mail, Financial Times, etc.

The Academy, for example, gives prizes for tourism comparable to the Oscar Awards, and has awarded Bansko for the best resort in Bulgaria 4 times at ceremonies in Kitzbühel, Austria.

All comments highlight the excellent skiing conditions and the low prices at the same time. The last recognition came from Daily Mirror. This British newspaper rated Bansko as the seventh best ski resort in the world, leaving behind famous places like Vail (USA) and Zermatt (Switzerland).

Daily Mirror points out that Bansko offers everything necessary for fun and unforgettable ski vacation at a reasonable price. According to the renowned newspaper, a weekly pass costs less than 129 EUR, accommodation is cheap and wonderful, food expenses are reasonable. The extremely beautiful nature around Bansko, in the foothills of Pirin Mountain, is also mentioned.

The leading positions of Bansko among ski resorts are not surprising at all. A lot of money is invested in tourism, including municipality investment in modernizing infrastructure. Accommodation in town includes luxurious hotels, less-star hotels, and guest rooms. There are more than 200 eating spots.

The first station of the cabin lift is not remote and is easily accessible, access being further facilitated by any possible means. The five-star hotel Lucky Bansko for example provides minivans every 30 minutes and during the weekend there also are trips to the Shiligarnika track.

Summer in Bansko – marvelous nature and unlimited entertainment

Bansko offers more than 70 km of tracks for your ski vacation, and more than 30% of them they are suitable for beginners, 40% – for intermediate and the resting – for advanced skiers.

The tracks are located in an astonishing nature with crystal clean air, and attract many tourists in summer, too. Furthermore, local people offer excursions, picnics, hiking tours, hunting, fishing, mountain horse riding and many other recreational activities.

For example, on the Banderishka polyana there is a whole recreational complex with a 400-meter long water slide – the longest in Europe! – tubing, minigolf, minifootball, “human table football”, playground for children, relaxing spots for adults.

All those activities, naturally, can be combined with relaxing SPA procedures or Aqua vacation in the outdoor swimming pools. In summer visitors of Bansko can spend their mountain vacation as if they were at a luxurious beach.

There are opportunities also for adrenalin seekers. They can join rough hiking routes through breathtaking precipices, or rock climbing, rafting, etc.

Bansko and its surroundings are also an attraction for history fans. 4 km away from the town, in Sveti Nikola area, archaeologists discovered the ruins of a Thracian fortress town built 3,500 years ago. On different levels there are early Christian basilicas from the 4th century and a medieval church.

Several unique churches of national importance can be added to those sites – Sveta Troitsa with its amazing history and Uspenie Bogorodichno where we can find a very peculiar iconostasis. Bansko also offers museums of Paisiy Hilendarski, Neofit Rilski, Nikola Vaptsarov, peculiar Bulgarian Renaissance houses, the museum of the painting school of Bansko, among others. The monuments declared cultural heritage in the region amount to more than 140.
